Administration of the Town of Milo!

Department Mission: The mission of the Department of Code Enforcement and Administration is to provide quality service to the citizens and businesses of the Town of Milo relating to building construction, fire and life safety, property maintenance and land development and use (e.g., zoning) issues.

Why should codes apply to my own house? Codes apply to your house for several reasons, which are:
- For your personal safety, and that of your family, and the guests invited into your home.

To ensure the economic well-being of the community by reducing potential spread of fire, disease and blight.

For the conservation of energy.

To protect future home purchasers who deserve reasonable assurance that the home they buy will be safe.

When do I need a Building Permit? The best way to find out if you need a Building Permit is to call our department. It is always best to discuss your plans with the Code Enforcement Officer before beginning construction to determine whether you need a Building Permit. Even if a Building Permit is not needed, the Code Enforcement Officer will answer construction questions and may provide valuable advice.

How can I file a complaint? A person can file a complaint with this department by completing the Complaint of Violation form available on our website and at the Town Hall. You will need the address of the property you are complaining about, a description of the violation, the location of the violation on the property and you will need to give your name, address and phone number for a complaint to be taken. Furthermore, you will need to sign the complaint in the presence of a notary public. Please understand that this department does not accept anonymous complaints. Lastly, please comprehend that our staff cannot enter private property so the violation must be visible from a public way (i.e., public road).

Provide prompt, courteous and professional service;

Inform the public of various code requirements and to work cooperatively to achieve voluntary code compliance;

Administer and enforce laws such as but not limited to building construction, fire prevention, flood damage prevention, property maintenance as well as land development and use (e.g., zoning);

Provide staff assistance and counsel to the Legislative Advisory Committee, Planning Board and Zoning Board of Appeals; and

Perform other duties as may be directed by law and/or the Town Board
